I love a good book. I read almost everyday thanks to the Kindle app. I was an early Kindle adopter but the app is even easier. Instead of opening up Instagram, I try to open the app for a few pages of reading. I also read before bed and the problem with the below book recommendations is they are so good, they kept me up past my bedtime.
The Couple Next Door by Shari Lapena
Holy cow, this book, so good I read it in two nights. A couple with an infant lives through the unthinkable tragedy of a kidnapping. Family dynamics, infidelity, secrets, and confessions; how is this book not a movie yet?!
Fates and Furies by Lauren Groff
This is one of those books that has stuck with me for months. It is the story of a marriage told from the perspective of the husband and then the wife. Just when you think you know the couple and begin to take sides, you swap perspectives and question everything. We constantly hear, “don’t judge someone until you walk a mile in their shoes,” but this book really took that a step further and forced me to confront how I view people and their motives.
American Kingpin: The Epic Hunt for the Criminal Mastermind Behind the Silk Road by Nick Bilton
Proof I don’t always read fiction. This book chronicles the hunt for the creator of the Silk Road by multiple federal agencies. The author uses a lot of overly dramatic foreshadowing at the end of each chapter but if you look past that, it’s a quick paced, engaging look into the hunt for Ulbricht. At the time of his arrest, the 29 year-old Ulbricht’s net worth was $28.5M and he lived modestly with roommates in San Francisco.
